English Speech by Puja Raj on the Independence Day

Happy Independence Day

Today it is necessary to remember Dr. Kalam, who used to say,“If a country is to be corruption - free and become a nation of beautiful minds, I strongly feel there are three key societal members who can make a difference they are the father, the mother and the teacher.”

Puja Raj delivering her speech

As you know, all of us have gathered here to celebrate the 69th Independence Day of our nation. As a citizen of India I am feeling so proud to deliver a speech on our Independence Day and share some of my views with you all.

India got freedom on the night of August 14, 1947 and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru rose to make speech on the Independence Day in New Delhi. When the world was sleeping people in India where walking to get life and freedom. India became free from British rule. Now India is the largest democratic country in the world. The country’s strength is to find, unity in diversity. But there are stray incidents that test her secularism but the people of India are ready to sacrifice anything for the cause of the unity.

My dear friends, we were the privileged lot to have been born in free India. We are able to breathe fresh free air since our birth.

It is a very significant day today for all Indians which we celebrate remembering sacrifices of great Indian leaders who had given their lives for the freedom and prosperity of the country.

As we know, that on this day in 1947 India got independence getting rid of the British rule since then we got some fundamental rights and above all is the right to call India as our own motherland. We are fortunate enough to be form Independent India but history reveals how our ancestors and forefathers had suffered in the brutal rule of the Britishers.
Getting Independence from the British rule was not a cakewalk. It took several decades of struggle right from 1857 when Mangal Pandey who was a solider in British Force first raised the voice against the Britishers. Since then several freedom fighters struggled and even gave their life for freedom. How can one forget Bhagat Singh, Chandra Shekhar Azad, Khudi Ram Bose who lost their lives at a very tender age just for fighting for freedom. How can the struggles of Netaji and Gandhiji be ignored. Gandhiji, who was the key person, taught us how a big battle can be won by non-violence. Finally the result of the struggle came on the 15th August, 1947 when India got Independence and since then we proudly celebrate this day. In 69th years of independence we have exponentially progressed in every field right from education, technology, sports, finance and so on which was not possible before independence. We, the Indians, are proud to be citizens our free country which is the largest democracy in the world.

We have several rights, the most important of all the rights is to choose our government but on the other hand we should remember our duties too. We have to respect this independence for which our forefathers struggled to the extent of sacrificing everything including their lives.

There are still some gray areas which have to be got rid of. There are few people who are using the independence and rights for self-motives at the cost of the pride of our country.

We students, children are the future of the country. We have to carry what we have been given in better way. We have to grow up as responsible citizens, contribute to our level best for the growth and development of our motherland, India. Let us take a pledge on this 69th Independence Day that we will respect our independence and will always keep our national flag flying high.

Well, at the end we must take an oath, “Let us do our duty of preparing ourselves to be well-educated citizens of tomorrow. Let us do our duty sincerely and do work hard to achieve our goals.”

Today we require youngsters with lots of knowledge and energy. Illiteracy is the first enemy for a democratic nation.
Let us get rid of illiteracy and take India to a brighter future.

Jai Hind! Jai Bharat!!
